Dr. Philipp Striedl, Investigating Cognitive Diversity through Landscape Language.
Job advertisement: Transcribing and translating Tashelhit and Darija.

In my research project, I study with ethnographic methods how Moroccans in rural environments
think and talk about landscape. I am looking for a skilled Tashelhit speaker who will help me to
transcribe and translate ca. 14 hours of audiovisual recordings from Tashelhit and Darija into
English. The interviews were recorded in April/May 2026 in Ihahan and Chiadma with more than
20 local participants. Most interviews are in Tashelhit. For transcription, translation and analysis
we will use the software ELAN.

Your tasks:
- Transcribing spoken Tashelhit with ALA-LC:
- Transcribing spoken Darija
- Translating Tashelhit and Darija into English

Your qualifications:
- Professional experience transcribing Tashelhit and Darija
- Professional experience translating Tashelhit and Darija into English
- Experience transcribing with ELAN or willingness to acquire necessary software skills
- Ability to collaborate remotely with cloud platforms e.g. Microsoft Teams
- Ability to work continuously on a project and to respect deadlines
- Interest in anthropology, geography and/or linguistics

Dates and location:
The tasks will be carried out remotely between 8/2026 and 12/2026. The exact timeframe and
