De levering vond plaats aan de marge van de militaire oefeningen African Lion 2026 in Zuid-Marokko.** Volgens de fabrikant Boeing heeft de luchtmacht 24 Apache helikopters in 2020 besteld van het type AH-64E Guardian aanvalshelikopters. Maar de bouw in de Mesa fabriek in Arizona is pas in 2023 van start gegaan nadat Marokko en het Foreign Military Sales (FMS) een contract hebben getekend voor een nog niet bekendgemaakt bedrag. De levering van de helikopters zou in 2024 beginnen. De nieuwe Apaches voor de luchtmacht worden bewapend met Lockheed Martin AGM-114L/R Hellfire lucht-grondraketten, lasergestuurde raketkits van BAE Systems Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) en meer dan 5.000 raketten van 70 mm- en Raytheon AIM-92H Stinger lucht-luchtraketten. De luchtmacht beschikt momenteel niet over aanvalshelikopters. De beschikbare 24 Aérospatiale SA342L Gazelle-helikopters voor lichte aanvallen dateren uit 1978 en zijn aan toe vervanging. Marokko schaft de Apaches aan in het kader van een programma voor de vernieuwing van de luchtmacht.
